Common Femoral Vein-to-Artery Diameter Ratio for Detection of Elevated Left Ventricular End-Diastolic Pressure: Diagnostic Accuracy Study
Conditions: Diagnosis of Elevated LVEDP Using Ultrasound of the Common Femoral Vein to Common Femoral Artery Diameter Ratio
Sex: All
Ages: 18 Years – 100 Years
Healthy volunteers: No
Enrollment: 105
Sponsor: Burapha University
Location: Burapha University Hospital Chon Buri
Summary
This prospective cross-sectional diagnostic accuracy study enrolled patients undergoing coronary angiography and left heart catheterization at Burapha University Hospital, Thailand. The diameters of the common femoral vein and common femoral artery were measured using ultrasonography, and the common FVD/FAD ratio was calculated. LVEDP, measured during left heart catheterization, served as the reference standard. An elevated LVEDP (\>16 mmHg) was defined as volume overload. Diagnostic performance was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.
Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria:
* adult patients (aged ≥18 years) who were scheduled to undergo coronary angiography with left heart catheterization
Exclusion Criteria:
* (1) contraindications to cardiac catheterization; (2) inability to obtain accurate ultrasonographic measurements of the common femoral vein or common femoral artery diameters; and (3) inability to advance a guidewire across the aortic valve into the left ventricle for measurement of LVEDP.
