Summary

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects on folic acid supplementation in a population living in an environment with chronic arsenic exposure in Birmingham, Alabama.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:≥18 years of ageResident of the superfund siteClinically stable with no significant changes in general health status in the past 4 weeks prior to screening as assessed by the investigatorProvide written informed consentExclusion Criteria:PregnancyOngoing folic acid nutritional supplementationMethotrexate useMegaloblastic anemiaAlcoholic liver diseaseMalabsorptive syndromes - celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease
