Improved Survival and Equality in Healthcare for Emergency General Surgery Patients - Can This be Achieved Through Standardisation of Care?

Summary

The goal of this prospective observational cohort study is to evaluate the implementation of a standardised care protocol for general surgery patients undergoing emergency laparotomy and assess any effect on clinical outcomes.The main questions it aims to answer are:Does standardised care protocols result in improved clinical outcomesTo what extent is the care protocols adhered toParticipants will enter implemented standardised care protocols for emergency laparotomy as part of new routine care. Researchers will compare outcomes prior to the implementation to outcomes following the implementation in order to assess any change.

Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria:Undergoing emergency laparotomy due to general surgical indicationExclusion Criteria:Children under 16Trauma laparotomyVascular surgical indication for laparotomy
